Student Sticks

Over the years I've tried lots of different ways for randomly calling on students. Most work okay, but student sticks are definitely my preference. During my first couple of years of teaching I would write students names on the sticks, but that meant making new ones each year. Now, I use student assigned numbers instead. This allows me to use the same sticks every year.

The container that I used for my stick is just a plastic seasoning container that I purchased from the Dollar Store. I cut a rectangular piece of construction paper, wrapped it around the container and glued it closed. Then I attach some cute little stickers.

I purchased the colored popsicle sticks from the Dollar Store too. Using colored sticks jazzes things up a bit. I wrote the numbers on the sticks with a black Sharpie. The Sharpie works well on most colors, but not so well on the purple sticks.
